What is Vaser Liposuction (or ‘Hi-Def Liposculpture’)?

Understanding this Innovative Body Contouring Procedure

Are you looking for a way to get rid of stubborn fat in specific areas of your body, but diet and exercise just don't seem to cut it? Vaser liposuction may well be the answer you've been searching for.  It’s a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that has revolutionised the way we approach fat removal. It’s effectively a modern form of liposuction that uses ultrasound technology to selectively break down and remove unwanted fat from specific areas of the body.

In this blog, we will explore the various aspects of Vaser liposuction, including how it works, the benefits and risks, and what to expect before, during, and after the procedure. Whether you are considering Vaser liposuction as a way to achieve your desired body shape or simply want to learn more about this cutting edge procedure, by the end of this blog you will have all the information you need to make an informed decision.

How does it Work?

The Science of Vaser Liposuction: How Ultrasound Energy Can Reshape Your Body

Vaser liposuction works by using ultrasonic energy to selectively target and break down unwanted fat cells in specific areas of the body. The procedure is performed using a small probe that emits high-frequency sound waves, which are transmitted through the skin and into the underlying fat cells. The sound waves cause these cells to vibrate rapidly, ultimately leading to the breakdown of their cell membranes and the release of their contents.

Once the fat cells have been liquefied, a small cannula is used to suction out the fat and contour the treated area. Because the ultrasonic energy specifically targets only the fat cells, surrounding tissues such as blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue are left largely undisturbed. This results in less damage to the surrounding tissues compared to traditional liposuction and contributes to a smoother, more natural-looking result.

The procedure is typically performed under general anaesthesia, it's possible for small areas to be done under local and sedation but is normally performed under general Anaesthesia.

What is the difference between Liposuction & Vaser Liposuction?

Although Liposuction and Vaser liposuction are similar cosmetic procedures with the same goal of removing unwanted fat from specific areas of the body, there are some key differences between the two techniques.

Liposuction is a traditional method of fat removal that involves making small incisions in the skin and manually removing fat with a hollow tube called a cannula. The cannula is inserted through the incisions and moved back and forth to loosen and suction out fat cells. Liposuction can be performed using general anaesthesia and is typically performed in an outpatient setting.

Vaser liposuction uses ultrasonic energy to selectively break down and more easily remove unwanted fat cells. One of the main advantages of Vaser liposuction over traditional liposuction is that it is less invasive and causes less trauma to the surrounding tissues. This results in less bruising, swelling, and discomfort after the procedure and a faster recovery time. It is also highly customisable due to its precise targeting of fat cells. This means that the procedure can be tailored to the specific needs and goals of each individual patient, allowing for more personalised results.

A Note from Mr. Alamouti

"Vaser liposuction is a revolution in the world of body contouring. The precision and customisation it offers allow me to sculpt the body in a way that was not possible before, while also minimising trauma to the surrounding tissues."

Targetable Areas with Vaser Liposuction

Vaser liposuction can be used to treat a wide range of areas on the body where there is unwanted fat. Some of the most commonly treated areas include:

-The Abdomen

Remove excess fat and sculpt the abdominal area, including the upper and lower abdomen, as well as the flanks or "love handles".

-Thighs

Contour the thighs, including the inner and outer thighs, to create a more toned and streamlined appearance.

-Arms

Remove excess fat from the upper arms, creating a more defined and toned appearance.

-Back

Remove excess fat from the back, including the bra line area, to create a smoother and more streamlined appearance.

-Chest

Remove excess fat from the chest area in men, creating a more defined and masculine appearance.

-Chin and neck

Remove excess fat from the chin and neck area, creating a more defined jawline and reducing the appearance of a "double chin".

-Hips and buttocks

Contour the hips and buttocks, creating a more curvaceous and sculpted appearance.

It's important to note that Vaser liposuction is not a weight loss procedure and is most effective for individuals who are close to their ideal body weight and have small to moderate areas of stubborn fat. Dr Reza Alamouti can help determine whether Vaser liposuction is a suitable option for each individual patient during a consultation as well as addressing which areas can be treated.

The Patient Journey with Reza Alamouti

Step 1: Initial Consultation

The patient journey for Vaser liposuction typically begins with a consultation with Dr. Reza Alamouti. During this consultation, Reza will discuss the patient's aesthetic goals and evaluate their overall health and medical history to determine whether Vaser liposuction is a suitable option for them.

Step 2: Setting the Date & Preparation

If the patient is deemed a suitable candidate, Mr Alamouti will explain the procedure in detail, including what to expect before, during, and after the procedure. He will also provide instructions on how to prepare beforehand, which may include avoiding certain medications, stopping smoking, and potentially adjusting any existing medications or supplements. During this period, the patient will also complete any pre-operative screenings as required.

Step 3: The Procedure

On the day of the procedure, the patient will arrive at 101 Harley Street. They will meet with Mr Alamouti to discuss any last-minute questions or concerns, and review the surgery plan. If local anaesthesia is used, the patient will be awake but numbed in the treatment area. If general anaesthesia is used, the patient will be asleep for the duration of the procedure.

Mr Alamouti will begin the procedure by making small incisions in the treatment area and inserting a small probe that emits ultrasonic waves. The ultrasonic waves will break down the fat cells, making them easier to remove with a cannula. He will then use the cannula to suction out the liquefied fat, sculpting the treatment area to the desired shape and contour.

Step 4: After Care

After the procedure is complete, the patient will be monitored in a recovery area until they are alert and comfortable enough to go home (usually within a few hours). They may experience some bruising, swelling, and discomfort in the treatment area, but this is normal and will gradually subside over the following weeks.

Dr Reza will provide detailed aftercare instructions, which may include wearing a compression garment to reduce swelling and help the body conform to its new shape, avoiding strenuous activity for several weeks, and taking any prescribed pain medication or antibiotics as directed.

Step 5: Recovery Time

The recovery time for Vaser liposuction varies depending on the extent of the procedure and the individual patient's healing rate. However, most patients are able to return to work and normal activities within a week or two, and the full results of the procedure will become visible over the following weeks and months as the body fully heals.

Throughout the patient journey, Reza will be available to answer any questions or concerns and provide support and guidance as needed. With proper care and adherence to aftercare instructions, most patients achieve excellent results from Vaser liposuction and enjoy a more sculpted and toned appearance in their treatment areas.

Step 6: Final Results

The timeline for seeing the final results of Vaser Liposuction can vary from person to person. Generally, patients can expect to see some improvement in the treated areas immediately after the procedure, although this will be obscured by swelling and bruising. Over the next few weeks as the swelling decreases, the treated areas will continue to improve in appearance. Most patients can expect to see noticeable improvements in their body contour within six to eight weeks after the procedure, with continued improvement over the next several months.

However, it is important to keep in mind that individual results may vary depending on the extent of the procedure, the patient's age and overall health, and other factors. It is important to follow all post-operative instructions provided by the surgeon to ensure optimal healing and results.

Vaser Liposuction - More than just Fat Removal

"Vaser liposuction is not just about removing unwanted fat, it's about creating a beautiful, natural-looking result that enhances the patient's confidence and self-esteem. With this technique, I can help my patients achieve their ideal body shape and feel great in their own skin.” -Reza Alamouti

FAQs

Is Vaser Liposuction safe?

Vaser liposuction is generally considered safe when performed by a qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeon in a controlled medical setting. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks and potential complications. However, these are generally minimal when patient follows all pre and post-operative instructions carefully.

What are the risks and side effects?

Some of the potential risks and complications associated with Vaser liposuction include: Bleeding Infection Swelling and bruising Numbness or temporary loss of sensation in the treatment area Fluid accumulation Uneven contouring or lumpiness Skin irregularities or scarring Allergic reaction to anaesthesia or medication It is important for patients to carefully evaluate the risks and benefits before undergoing the procedure. Dr Reza also asks that patients are honest about any medical conditions, medications, or allergies they have that may increase the risks of the procedure.

Does it Hurt?

Vaser liposuction involves local anaesthesia or sedation to numb the area and minimise discomfort during the procedure. Any soreness or tenderness experienced after the procedure can be well managed with medication. Patients should discuss any concerns they have about pain or discomfort with Reza before the procedure and follow all post-operative instructions carefully to minimise pain and promote healing.

Is it a surgical or non-surgical procedure?

Vaser liposuction is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that removes unwanted fat from specific areas of the body using ultrasound technology. Although it involves making small incisions in the skin and using surgical instruments to remove fat cells, it is still considered less invasive than traditional liposuction, resulting in a shorter recovery period.

Who can have Vaser Liposuction?

Vaser liposuction is generally suitable for healthy adults who have specific areas of unwanted fat that have not responded to diet and exercise. However, not everyone may be suitable for the procedure. Ideal candidates would be as follows: Those who are in good overall health and have a stable body weight. Those who have specific areas of unwanted fat that they would like to target, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, back, arms, or neck. Those who have realistic expectations about the results and are committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and diet after the procedure. Those who do not have significant medical conditions that may increase the risks of the procedure, such as bleeding disorders or uncontrolled diabetes. Those who are non-smokers or are willing to quit smoking before and after the procedure. It is important for patients to undergo a thorough medical evaluation and consultation with Reza before undergoing Vaser liposuction. The patient's medical history, current health status, and aesthetic goals will all be evaluated to determine if the procedure is appropriate for them. Patients who are not good candidates may be advised to consider alternative options, such as non-surgical fat reduction treatments or lifestyle changes to achieve their desired results.

Can I choose between local anaesthetic and general anaesthetic?

The choice of anaesthesia for Vaser liposuction depends on various factors, including the extent of the procedure, the patient's health, and the surgeon’s/patient’s preference. This should be discussed during the consultation process to determine the best approach for their individual needs. The options are local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia. Local anaesthesia with sedation is preferred for smaller treatment areas or for patients who prefer to avoid general anaesthesia. General anaesthesia, on the other hand, is preferred for larger treatment areas or for patients who may be anxious or uncomfortable being awake during the procedure.

Are the results permanent?

Vaser liposuction can provide long-lasting results, but it is important to understand that these are not necessarily permanent. The removal of fat cells during the procedure is permanent, but the remaining fat cells in the body can still expand in size with weight gain or lifestyle changes, which can affect the appearance of the treated areas. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a balanced diet is important to help prevent the remaining fat cells in the body from expanding and maintain the overall appearance of the treated areas. It is also important to note that while Vaser liposuction can provide significant improvements in body contouring and fat reduction, it is not a weight loss solution. The procedure is designed to target specific areas of stubborn fat that are resistant to diet and exercise, and is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle or weight loss program.

What does Vaser Stand for?

The term "VASER" in Vaser liposuction stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. It is a specialised form of liposuction that uses ultrasound energy to selectively break down and remove unwanted fat cells from specific areas of the body.

How many areas can I have treated in one procedure?

The number of areas that can be treated in a single Vaser liposuction procedure is determined by the patient's overall health status, the extent of the areas to be treated, and the surgeon's discretion. Common areas treated together include the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, back, arms, or neck. However, the more areas treated, the longer the procedure and recovery time. Patients should discuss their goals with Reza to determine the best approach. Ultimately, the number of areas treated depends on the patient's health, the extent of the areas, and Reza's professional judgement.

Taking Supplements to Support Your Recovery

Including Collagen and Vitamins

Collagen plays an important role in the healing process of the skin and tissues after plastic surgery, and supplementing with a high-quality collagen supplement can have a number of positive effects. Collagen helps to support the skin's natural elasticity and firmness, which can aid in the healing of incisions and scars. Collagen also supports the body's natural inflammatory response, which can help to reduce swelling and bruising after surgery. In addition to these healing properties, Collagen can help to support healthy hair and nail growth.

By supplementing with Collagen and Vitamins, patients can support their body's natural healing processes and improve the overall appearance and health of their skin, hair, and nails after surgery. As always, patients should consult with their healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen.

We recommend Sanaz Marine Collagen Elixir, a high quality hydrolysed marine collagen with added vitamins. Highly absorbable and stored in convenient daily vials, it’s the easiest way to support your wellbeing before and after surgery.
